turkeys on the horizon...

i havent posted in ages!

ok two weeks

nevertheless, its thanksgiving tomorrow. and gobbledigook to you.

so i was just talking art to the head chief here. i don't know why it is that i usually don't talk to people at work about my art and music, etc. its usually because no one is ever into that sort of thing where ive worked, but here a few people are, so that's refreshing.
gotta do some more art, and music.
why is it so hard to do it consistently? at least weekly at a minimum. i need to keep up the momentum and well, practice practice practice.

something's not working.

oh well, so i'll return in december. ta ta

updates

there was something i really wanted to blog about and now i cant remember!?
well in any case, i finally was able to
  1. research like a madwoman and find a music program that was EASY to use unlike Sonar which i hate and detest. MixCraft was the magic i needed.
  2. record a few short songs with some minor program/computer glitches, and fix those too.
  3. figure out how to html music stuff after reading many online help blogs
  4. find a music player i can upload my own music to
  5. ftp it all and have it come out normal!
yey (and phew!)

planning to get my costume tonite. dunno which but i've gathered a few troops and we're gonna do something Friday. i must get out!

amazing Radiohead...

In Radiohead's new video for "House of Cards", no cameras or lights were used. Instead, 3D plotting technologies collected information about the shapes and relative distances of objects. The video was created entirely with visualizations of that data.

Directed by James Frost
From the album IN RAINBOWS

AHA! i found DETAILS!
"Radiohead Music Video: House of Cards
Zoo Productions
Is it possible to shoot a music video without a camera? Radiohead did. For the first time in history a video was shot with a laser – and it was done at the G-Star Studios in West Palm Beach, Florida. Long known as one of the most technologically advanced bands in the world, Radiohead has always been on the cutting edge of new world visions. Named by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the greatest rock bands on the planet, the English alternative rock band from Oxfordshire performed the song Deck of Cards from their seventh album In Rainbows at the G-Star Studios under closed set conditions and super secret security. The famous band, with over 23 million records sold, shared the spotlight with the world’s only high definition laser mechanism, the HDL64E developed by Velodyne in San Francisco, used here for the very first time. It is not a camera. Essentially, it is 64 lasers mounted on a revolving turret that spins at various speeds up to 900 revolutions per second. It gives a 360 degree 3-D view of the entire area out 150 meters. The data is fed into a computer where the “camera lens” or “view point” is flown around to any point of reference that the laser has marked, including direct overhead shots. A second laser scans for direct facial close-ups. The resulting visual product is unlike anything ever filmed before. The “Director of Photography” was Velodyne Field Applications Engineer, Rick Yoder, who helped create the original technology that was invented by Velodyne founder, David Hall. “This technology is stunning,” says G-Star Studios head Greg Hauptner. “Whether it takes hold like the ‘talkies’ in the Jazz Singer or will go the way of 70 mm film, one thing is certain: this new laser system will revolutionize filmmaking in one form or another.”

music tag rant

ooh the darkwave station on last.fm is so seriously DARK!
geesh!
i came across this band description that tripped me out! what is this!?
"Arcana is a neoclassical/darkwave band from Sweden, formed in 1993. They merge classically- and medievally-inspired instrumental music with occasional vocals to arrive at a richly atmospheric and dark musical tapestry."
&
their song "lost in time" was so glorious! haha

this was followed by some German band, very closely related to Rammstein playing some "gothic darkwave".

i really don't get the "darkwave" tag. i thought darkwave was the depressing sidekick to newwave? as always, people define it to be whatever they want in the end.

*in the "german" tag: i left this comment:
femmeartis wrote:
"everything they sing sounds so ANGRY - even when they sing about butterflies and bunnies! lol"

today's all over the place!

i don't understand how one person can post up 20 photos of themselves where all the shots are in the same close-up parameter, same facial expression/pose, and same exact everything. just 20 of them. maybe in different shirts. wtf

cat

so i'm digging the band MGMT. aka management. very eclectic little songs they put together. i need to feed off of some musicians for inspiration, ideas, etc. i miss that about being in a band. :/

music's turn!

so last.fm has me kinda hooked. (evidenced by the 1,527 plays since june)
I'm on there not only listening to all the new stuff coming up in the stream, but adding reviews, comments, editing stuff, uploading band pics. WTF i should get paid for my endless Musicaholia. (oh i like that).
thus far, my fav radio tag is indie pop or indie rock. for obvious reasons.

and ive realized the songs that piss me off the most when they come on are:
Kate Nash's "Merry Happy" -she's obsessed with cheese on toast! wtf!? enough to use in a lyric!!! and relate to cheesy happy girls!! wtf squared!
&
Peter Bjorn and John's "Young Folks"- you know, that whistling song..that after a while you want to kill by self torture listening to their own song over and over and over....

OMG i'm ok now.

SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL: art and rock and roll exhibit

because this exhibit ROCKS!

The exhibition, whose title is culled from the Rolling Stones song that invites the listener to “have some sympathy and some taste” charts the intersection of the two cultural genres through art, album cover design, music videos, film and other materials, and examines the convergence of traditionally serious visual art and rebellious and irreverent rock music

Beginning with Andy Warhol’s legendary involvement with Velvet Underground in 1967 and culminating in a major new installation by British artist Jim Lambie, whose background as a rock musician and DJ heavily informs his sculpture, Sympathy for the Devil provides a serious and comprehensive presentation of art work arising form the intersection of these two worlds.

Organized by the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago and curated by MCA, Chicago Curator Dominic Molon, Sympathy for the Devil: Art and Rock and Roll Since 1967 includes over 100 works of art by 56 artists and artist collectives, explores the varied ways art and music interrelated and overlapped (or in some cases not) in six geographic centers: New York, West Coast/Los Angeles, Midwest, United Kingdom, Europe, and “The World.” The emphasis is not on the aesthetics of rock, but on singular and significant works of art in various formats and media, that were created as a circumstance of the two cultural genres coming together.
